Bridges

bridge before and after

A dental bridge is used to replace multiple missing teeth. You can think of it as literally “bridging” the gap made by one or more missing teeth. We can make bridges out of gold, alloys, porcelain, or a mix of these materials.

A dental bridge also helps maintain your facial shape, as sagging can occur when you are missing teeth, and it can prevent uneven stress in your bite.

Because your bridge is bonded to the surrounding teeth, it’s important to maintain healthy teeth, gums, and bone. That way you can ensure the strong foundation and success of your bridge!

What are the benefits of dental bridges?

Dental bridges offer a number of benefits to patients who choose to utilize them. They are a cost-effective and non-invasive treatment that is designed to have you smiling again in no time. Other benefits of dental bridges include:

  • Restores the appearance of the smile

  • Easier to eat and speak

  • Helps maintain the shape of the face

  • Evenly distributes the force of the bite

  • Keeps nearby teeth from drifting out of place

How do I maintain my dental bridge?

There are no special instructions that come with dental bridges. Once a dental bridge has been placed and has had time to be properly cemented to the teeth, it can be treated similarly to natural teeth. We recommend practicing good oral hygiene and visiting our practice twice per year for regular cleanings and exams to ensure that the teeth underneath aren’t affected by tooth decay, which would require the bridge to be removed and replaced. It’s also a good idea to avoid chewing anything with your dental bridge that you should not chew with natural teeth, like popcorn kernels, ice, or hard candy.

Should I get a dental bridge or a dental implant?

Dental bridges and dental implants are both excellent tooth replacement options that come with their own advantages and disadvantages. Dental implants are very durable restorations that can last for many years, but they are considerably more invasive and tend to be a more costly option. Dental bridges may not last quite as long but they can be used in more cases, and they offer a much quicker recovery time. Our team will be able to help you decide which restorative option will meet your needs and be the best option for you at your consultation.
