Back-to-School Dental Tips

It's time to go back to school! In addition to buying new notebooks and pencils, backpacks and lunch boxes, make sure your child's smile is back-to-school ready with these tips.

Get a New Toothbrush

Start the school year off fresh with a brand new toothbrush. It's good to replace toothbrushes every three months or so, so why not start that routine now along with the others your student will be implementing. In fact, let your child pick out his or her own toothbrush to get them more into their dental hygiene routine.

Send Healthy Snacks

Make sure you stock up on tooth-friendly snacks to send to school. Skip the chips and send calcium-rich string cheese. Get some yogurt for a great on-the-go breakfast. We love crunchy fruits and vegetables – apples, carrots, and celery – for their fiber, plus chewing them helps to scrub teeth. Instead of a sports drink, get your child a new water bottle to take to school. Not only is water thirst-quenching, but it's a good alternative when they can't brush their teeth after lunch.

Schedule a Dental Visit

One of the best things you can do to get your child's smile back-to-school ready is to schedule a dental appointment. At Gary Johnson DDS Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we see patients of all ages. Our comprehensive suite of services includes children's exams and cleanings, fluoride treatments, dental sealants, tooth-colored fillings, and more. While you're here, feel free to bring up any dental concerns you have for your child or ask any questions about making sure their smile is all set for going back to school.

We love seeing your kids' smiling faces around our office, so bring your little one in for an exam and cleaning. They'll leave here with a shiny set of pearly whites, and you'll leave with the confidence that they're on a path toward a lifetime of good oral health.
