Teeth Whitening

Our teeth go through a lot each day. Not only are teeth required to chew all the different kinds of food we eat every day; they are exposed to what we drink as well. On top of that, bacteria will grow on them until they get brushed away during your routine oral hygiene. It's no wonder why our teeth lose their whiteness over time! Contact our office near you to schedule your teeth whitening treatment!

If your teeth have become dull and you are looking for the best whitening options, we can help! Dr. Gary Johnson provides the safest way to whiten teeth at the dentist with state-of-the-art treatments. Our professional dental whitening treatments are effective and perfect for those with sensitive teeth.

Finding the Best Treatment for You

Schedule a visit with Chico dentist Dr. Gary Johnson to determine which teeth whitening method is best for you. Not every mouth and set of teeth is the same, so not every whitening treatment is the same; perhaps your teeth are more grayish than brown, or maybe you have some tooth-colored fillings or crowns. Dr. Johnson will examine your teeth to determine which procedure would benefit you the most. We have two kinds of teeth whitening options at Dr. Gary Johnson DDS:

  • At-home teeth whitening system

  • Whitening toothpaste

When selecting a whitener or any dental product, be sure to look for the ADA Seal of Acceptance — your assurance that a product has met ADA standards of safety and effectiveness.

At-Home Whitening System

At-home whitening is a method that takes longer than chair-side bleaching but can be more convenient. You can purchase your at-home whitening treatment over the counter, but we suggest getting yours from Chico dentist, Dr. Johnson because he'll advise which one is best for your situation.

Teeth Whitening Trays

Teeth whitening trays contain peroxide to bleach the tooth enamel. The trays will come in different concentrations and typically come in a gel form that is placed inside of a mouthguard. Depending on the brand, you will either use the tray twice a day for 2 weeks or wear it overnight for 1-2 weeks. When you get your tray for Dr. Johnson, he'll custom fit the mouthguard to precisely fit on your teeth and give you the best results.

Teeth Whitening Strips

Whitening strips are a thin and flexible plastic strip that are prepared with hydrogen peroxide bleaching on the side facing your teeth. These kits will come with two kinds of strips, one for the upper teeth and one for the lower. You will place the bleaching side onto your teeth and gently press the strip to ensure good contact is made with all of your teeth. You will use whitening strips for 30 minutes a day, twice a day.

Whitening Toothpaste

While all toothpaste help clean your teeth and remove surface stains, specially enhanced 'whitening' toothpaste contains a special bleaching chemical that makes it more effective. You will simply brush your teeth as your normally would with whitening toothpaste. This method is not as immediately effective and noticeable as professional whitening or whitening trays, but it can be easily purchased in any market.
